Tonight was the first night of racing with it being a non points night. There were a total of 40 cars that showed up with some of the best talent in the tri-state area. Bruce Jr. time trialed in at 13th fastest and that was with old tires. the team took advantage of the night by using it to try some new set ups. During the race a one point Jr had cracked the top 10 to just be put back because of a yellow flag. He started 13th and finished up the night in 12th. Jr. should be much faster next week with the changes planned for the setup. It also will be the first points week and Bruce will be racing for Rookie of the Year.

We weren't sure if we were going to get the race in as the weather didn't look like it was going to work with us. However the rain stayed away. During the warm ups Jr. looked fast and with our watch it looked like he was going to be around 14.1 to 14.2 on time. Which ended up in the top 7 as it turned out. When he took the track for qualifying Bruce only made the first lap around and the front left tire pulled thru the lugs and he lost his wheel. This put him in the back of the pack for the feature on the start. At the start of the feature everyone checked up in the back and he found himself taken out with a broken chain. track conditions weren't the best as they were very dry and dusty. The feature ended up a spin fest with 11 cars in the field not able to finished. Our second driver Beau Joseph started last on the field and finished 8th. Great run for him. He will get-em next week.

The night started out with the track being in great condition. Bruce Jr. Found himself after qualifying starting in the a main from the 3rd position. At the start of the race Jr. went into turn one in 4th place but quickly made his way back to 2nd place. the leader of the race, who is a past champion, quickly found himself in lap traffic and Jr. took advantage of this and passed him for the lead. With about 5 to 7 laps to go there was a red flag thrown because of an accident on the track. When the drivers were given the start up and go sign, Jr. made a rookie mistake when he popped his clutch too hard and broke the chain. He knocked real hard at the door for the win and it looked like he was well on his way when this happened. He learned a lot and they know that he is someone to be reckoned with.

The track was in pretty good shape but cold tonight. We qualified the 4th fastest and the track officials inverted the top 10 positions. There was only a second in time between the 1st place qualifier and the 26th place. Bruce Jr. started the feature 4th row on the inside. After about half way he found himself running in second with some great moves during the race. At one point it looked like he may have a shot at the lead however he settled in for a second place finish.

The crew missed the setup for the night. At the start of the A-Main Bruce found himself hung out to dry on the outside and got shuffled to the rear. He made his way back to 12th and was back and forth between 12th and 15th before he went for a ride flipping and crashed out of the race. Jr. is OK but did some serious damage to the car. We will be back this next Friday. He still had a 16th finish and is leading rookie and has cracked the top 15 in points. The first thing he said when the EMTs got there "Get this car turned over! My private areas have been racked. I'll never have kids."

Well, what a night. Bruce Jr. was back after the last weeks crash and was even faster than he has been. the car drove perfect we were just off a little in speed. Jr. started 11th and was biding his time with the car on cruise control. Jr. got up to 7th and a yellow came out he almost ran over a track official who walked out on the track. A large clump of clay got pushed into the throttle linkage and held it wide open. Jr. turned off the car and coasted into the infield. Our night was over. We really need to to get the monkey off our back.

The track was in great shape and fast. Bruce Jr. drew the 98 pill which put him last. The feature was full of accidents. Jr. slapped the wall, but continued and started making his way through traffic. At one point it looked like he was going to crack the top 10 but there was an accident on the track he had no where to go and had to stop to avoid it. This once again put him to the rear. He was on the move again and got up to 12th and he thought that he had a right front go down. It turned out to be a bent/broken radius rod/torsion bar. It was a surprise, but it appears that he raced most of the race in this condition. Under caution he pulled over to have a track official inspect the front and was given the ok to continue. Once again he went to last place and raced the last 3 laps. Hopefully we will draw a better starting pill next week. The car was very fast, we just needed some luck.

Tire damage

The track surface was very dry and slick for the event. Jr. was a little loose in hot laps, so the crew made a few adjustments for the heat race. Bruce started 12th in his qualifying race. As he worked his way through the field, he was struck in the right rear causing him to spin. Jr. reacted quickly as was able to keep the car moving to avoid being placed in the rear of the field. He went on to claim 2 more positions to finish 5th and transfer to the evening's feature. In the pits the crew found the w-link had been severely bent in the incident and asked Bruce how he drove it like that. Jr replied," I knew something was bent, so I adjusted my line to keep moving forward."
Feature time and Jr. lined up 13th. The field was full of the best racers in the area, so Jr. had his work cut out for him. Jr. wasted no time vaulting past the competition. He had worked his way up to the 7th position when a competitor spun in front of him and struck the #17 in the right nerf bar, forcing it back on the tire. Under caution, Jr. could smell the burning rubber and knew he had a problem. Instead of exiting the race, Bruce continued on knowing his mount was injured. He drove the next 10 laps very conservatively to save the tire. He never lost a position and had the tire stayed up, he would have easily had a top 10 finish. The top 10 was not to be had however. The tire blew going into turn 3 and Bruce rolled to a stop. Snake bit a 4th week in a row, Jr' s stats do not reflect his talent behind the wheel.

WIN

Heavy downpours on the 30th helped the racing surface keep its moisture. Bruce went out for hot laps and found the surface to be very fast. After a little tweaking of the setup, Jr. lined up 3rd on the inside of row 2. As the green flag waived, Jr. shot into second, only to get booted to the high side exiting turn 2. A quick left back into traffic and Bruce was now running 7th. Bruce clawed his way back to the top 5 with a calculated pass to the outside which bagged him 2 spots. By the checkers he was running 4th and transferred to the A Main. After pondering a few more adjustments on the car, the team decided to only move the rear tire spacing for the feature. Bruce lead the field to the green as he was given pole position based on his driver handicap. Bruce was off like a shot and quickly put distance between himself and the rest of the field. As the race for 2nd heated up, Jr. checked out and by lap 5 of the 20 lap event was about to catch lap traffic. Little did Bruce know that his biggest challenge was yet to come. During the next green flag stretch, Brett Arndt moved from his 9th starting spot and camped out on Bruce's right rear. Brett dogged Jr. every lap. At one point, he was able to get position on Jr. only to have the yellow come out and put him back. From that point on Jr. knew he was a threat and stepped it up a notch. Over the closing laps, Brett could never get close enough to Bruce to make a pass. The checkers fell and Bruce had his 1st 600cc victory of 2006. In victory lane he thanked the crew and the "boys at the shop" for all the hard work and patience. The monkey has "faced the future" and will hopefully stay away for the rest of the season.

During the race, Jr. had passed his way up to the 8th position when a competitor slammed Bruce in the rear nerf and sent him spinning. He went to the back of the field of 24 and came back to 14th with about 10 laps remaining in the event. Bruce said," Our car didn't seem that fast tonight, so we just got what we could. Tonight started out well with Jr. taking the checkers in his heat race. Due to driver handicapping, Jr. could start no better that 10th due to his win last time the track ran. With his heat win, Jr started the a Main from the 10th position and rapidly charged toward the head of the field. Jr. moved through the field and was poised for a top 5 when trouble found the Bridgeville Bandit. As he headed off into the 4th turn on the last lap, the car in front of him lost power. Bruce tried to avoid contact, but hopped the disabled car's rear tire. As Bruce was taking evasive action 2 other driver slipped past on the low side. Jr actually crossed the finish line on 2 wheels. It was a photo finish from 5th to 8th. Jr finished 8th and recorded another top 10 on the season. This run combined with his win vaulted him into the Top 10 in series points as well as leading rookie driver at the speedway.

After being flooded out last week, the moisture stayed in the surface and the track was very fast. Junior brought his A Game and posted 2nd quick time to qualify for the evening event. Bruce knew starting on the outside he would lose a few spots on the start. Just after the green waived Jr. squeezed the Water Pharmacy micro into 3rd position. Bruce patiently waited to make his move on the leaders. After making a pass for 2nd, Jr. looked for the lead with 7 laps remaining. The leader slipped up the banking and Bruce pointed his mount toward the bottom. The leader pinched Bruce into the inside berm to keep him from passing. Jr. would not be denied and made the pass on 2 wheels as he sailed over the inside berm. Bruce then went on to claim victory by a straightaway over 2nd place. Jr. has leaned allot since the beginning of the season and is starting to hit his stride. This is his 3rd win in past 3 races, 1 heat victory and 2 feature wins.

When we got to the track Bruce Jr. pulled his starting pill and drew number 98 out of 108. Our luck wasn't with us at that moment, but we saved it for later. After the warm ups we noticed oil all over the bottom of the car. During our inspection we found that our oil cap had came off. We could not locate another cap at the track so we refilled the oil pan, crossed our fingers and ran the heat race. Bruce Jr started last and came to 5th in 8 laps. Jr looked very impressive in the qualifying session, passing high and low to claw his way to the front. His efforts in the heat race rewarded him with with the 3rd starting position in the feature event. As the green flag waved there was a wreck behind Bruce and the caution flag was displayed to the field. As Jr slowed down and he was run over by a car from behind. The contact caused him to spin out in turn one on the opening lap. As he went to assume his original position, Jr was sent to the rear for spinning under caution. So there he was taking the green on the first lap from 24th position. Bruce Jr "drove like he stole it" and scorched through the field to a 12th place finish. Dodging and weaving through traffic and also lapped cars, Bruce Jr had an excellent opportunity to showcase his driving talent. He made the most of a bad situation and NEVER gave an inch! After the races the staff at the track admitted that they didn't see what caused Jr's spin, so they just put him to the rear. Unfortunately a bad call from the track officials denied Jr a very good chance for a repeat win. The Bridgeville Bandit is currently the leading track rookie and also enjoys a Top 10 in championship points.

A threat of rain dogged the racers all evening and high humidity meant the moisture would stay in the track. Jr had to dodge and swerve around slowing cars on the initial green flag and slipped back to 22nd as he went high and the track was blocked by a stalled racer. Bruce picked off the competition slowly until the tires came in and Bruce started advancing quickly. Bruce utilized the inside and outside lines. At one point he was trading positions for 7th, but after repeated attempts and almost getting crashed, he decided that 8th was a reasonable result and didn't push the issue on the final lap of the event. Jr. again showed patience while progressing through the field. Setting up and timing his passes to keep his momentum going forward.

Toward the conclusion of the race, Jr had passed up to 7th , only to have the position be adjusted back due to the caution flag being displayed to the field of 24 starters. By the checkers, Bruce had another Top 10 under his belt, padding his Rookie of the Year status at the small Pennsylvania bullring.

Bruce set fast time for the night. They inverted the top 10 for the feature and Bruce Jr. decided to try to be the first one to win from the 10th position. He had a great shot at it as he was really on the move. With 6 laps left he was running in 3rd and gaining on the leaders. The excitement was there and Jr was ready to pounce on the leaders. He managed to get by for second and right away was on the leaders ass when they through the yellow. Officials put Bruce Jr. back in 3rd and waived the green flag to restart the race. That yellow with the tire heat cycle did us in as for the last 2 laps all he could do was finish in the 3rd position. Ron Faision, track promoter, said to Bruce Jr. he thought that for the first time he was going to have to pay out the $1000 but it wasn't to be. Bruce Jr. moved another 2 positions in the overall points battle. He currently is in 6th. if the top guys have a few bad weeks it's not out of the picture for a championship. But we have to have a lot go our way. this has really become a character builder for him.We really are giving notice to our competitors and gaining fans. Bruce also took the checkered flag in a 270 vs 600 grudge match to decide who was faster.

After many weeks of time trials, the speedway officials decided to use heat races to set the field for the feature. This was the first night for the pill draw to set starting position in the heat races. Bruce found himself in the 3rd heat race finishing 2nd which put him 6th on the start for the feature. The race was a wild one as they raced like in was a full moon out. With only a few laps in the books, Bruce found himself running 3rd and closing on the leader. As Jr. followed the 2nd place runner low past the leader, the car ahead spun entering the corner and collected Jr. in the process. Bruce restarted in the back and geared up for a charge back to the front. This was only a 25 lap race so there wasn't much time to fool around. Passing cars on the inside and the outside, Jr. was a man on a mission. With only 2 laps to go Jr. made his way to 5th when the yellow came out. On the restart the car in front of him got out of shape and collected the field. The crash took out 6 cars. Bruce's car lost the front wing as well as taking damage top the top wing, cocking it sideways. Again he dropped the the rear the field with only 2 laps remaining. After a wild outside pass that nabbed him a few positions, Jr came back to finish 8th. He had the quickest times of all the competitors throughout night but the breaks didn't go our way. He has really made a reputation for being one of the top cars at Middleford Speedway.

During practice Jr discovered that for the first time he was able to keep the throttle open all the way around the speedway. The crew put a great setup in the car and Bruce obviously made the most of it. He was very fast during the early hot lap session, but that doesn't pay anything. In the heat race Bruce raced his way to a second place finish which put him on the front row for the A Main. Bruce ran up front during the whole race and brought home a 3rd place finish. The crew adjusted the setup for the long run, but the evening's full moon exerted it force on the drivers. Cautions were plentiful and the setup never had the chance to work properly. All in all another fantastic effort for the Bridgeville Bandit and the 17 crew.

Bruce Sr. and Jr. met Mike Calinoff at the airport to kick of the day's events early. Mike had the weekend off as the Nextel Cup visited the road course at Watkins Glen and David Stremme was not driving. Jr. made the most of his afternoon with Mike and was really amped up for the evening activities. Bruce was wicked fast off the trailer and set fast time in warm ups. Then, needing little motivation, Jr. mowed down the competition in his qualifying effort in the 3rd heat and took the win. That placed him 3rd on the grid for the feature. Jr made quick work of the 2nd place starter and set his sights on the leader. Over the course of the event, Jr would catch up the 636cc powered machine of the leader, but his 600cc, just didn't have the pull at the end of the straights to complete a pass. Not satisfied with follow the leader, Jr tried every line he could to get around him. Every lap, jr set up a little different trying to find the edge over the more powerful engine. At one point he found success, only to have a caution negate his effort and put him back to 2nd. After the race was over, the crew discovered that the shifter handle had broken in the cockpit and Jr was using the bare linkage to shift his mount. Needless to say Mike was impressed with his driving style and cannot wait to see him in an asphalt car. Mike Calinoff has joined the growing list of people who have "Faced the Future!"

Bruce's evening started on the ominous side. The car was a little off in hot laps. Jr. said it just felt down on power. The crew guessed it was the surface and left the chassis alone going into the heat race. Jr wound up finishing 2nd, but still knew that something needed changed to really allow him to push the car to it full potential. The crew went to work and tweaked the setup a bit based on past notes from the speedway. Bruce went to work and with in a few laps of the start was leading the race and pulling away from the field. The changes worked well and the traction improved throughout the race and the tires selection paid off. When Jr crossed the finish line he became 1 of only 2 drivers to win a feature at this track twice this year. Bruce Jr. really enjoyed racing at this track and picking up 2006 Rookie of the Year honors. Bruce Jr. brought his "A Game" to the track as he finished 2nd in his qualifying event. Officials handicapped him to a 6th starting position in the A Main. As soon as the green fell, Jr's foot fell on the loud pedal and he found himself challenging the leader for the top spot. Jr had his work cutout for him, as he squared off against the current point leader who has a reputation for rough driving. Jr. ran the gauntlet and successfully moved into the top spot, only to lose it when the caution flew and he was forced to line up 2nd. The leader, now aware of the threat Jr posed to his winning the event, would be watching for Jr's nose wing in the coming laps. As if scripted, Jr again gained position on the leader, but was unable to make the pass as the leader pinched Bruce into the berm, causing him to spin out. Jr narrowly missed getting t-boned by his fellow competitors. After re-firing the engine, Jr fell in line at the rear. With only a few laps remaining he charged through the field and finished 8th. When asked after the event why he tried the pass, Hibbs commented, "I wasn't satisfied with 2nd. We came here to win, and that's exactly what we almost did. Had we been raced clean, we would be in victory lane. I race drivers the way they race me, so when the roles are reversed, well, you know..." In post race events, Jr discovered he had a new nickname - "Hollywood". Team Hibbs would like to thank a track official for providing us with a nickname for Jr, as they had been trying to come up with a catchy moniker for the young Delaware driver. The team will be making the most of "Hollywood" for the rest of 2006! Jr would like to thank his fellow competitors for their skill and friendship at the track. A week of "deja vu" for Hibbs Motorsports. Jr. was running well in his heat race and was attempting to pass the leader, when contact was made between the cars causing a spin. Unlike last week, this time his momentum caused him to tip over and land on the top wing. Unable to finish the heat, Jr. started shotgun on the field. After racing his way into to the 10th position, disaster struck the 17 team. An accident started ahead of Jr and he had nowhere to go. He did his best to protect the vital parts of his mount, but the crash bent the nose wing back over the right front tire. This made it impossible for Jr. to turn the car and he was forced to retire from the event. The team will make repairs and be ready for another go, next week!

The track was very heavy tonight and kept its moisture. This allowed for very fast racing. Bruce Jr. finished 4th in his heat race to get a top 10 start in the evening's feature. After working his way to 8th a torsion bar broke on the right front corner and caused Jr to spin out.He went to the rear where he ran with the right front side dragging and tried to finish the race. The dragging corner acted like a shovel and filled the foot well of the car full of dirt until Jr could no longer control the throttle. At that point he decided to pull off the speedway and was credited with a 16th place finish. By staying out he was able to make up enough positions to remain 4th in the points, but it appears the monkey has once again made a home at Hibbs Motorsports. Jr. settled in and was running in the 3rd position waiting for the race to settle in and start making his move. His goal was to race hard the last 7 to 10 laps. Then Jr remarked that it was, "coming to me and that I was just cruising when the right front torsion bar gave away." The damage caused him to spin and he pulled to the infield. By that time the top 3 had pulled away from the rest of the field and a top 5 finish was lost. Jr. finished 17th and vowed the monkey was going to get his next week.
